The city of Hilo has one foot in the present and the past. It only rains at night which ensures it is always green. Local color include a trip to the auction and Siusan Farmers' Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. North Hilo Hamakua coast is that of vertical cliffs, waterfalls and misty valleys green. The highway ends at the Waipio Valley is the only one accessible by road. Hiking here should be a priority.

Some of the best dive sites can be found here. Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park is the place that served as refuge for Hawaiians and is one of the holiest sites in Hawaii.

Kau is bordered by the Puna district of the volcano Kilauea. Life goes on despite lava engulfing some cities, but for orchids and flower producers, business as usual. Here, tired but happy tourists can soak in the hot volcano spa pool and think about all the beauty they saw. The wonderful vacation spots in Hawaii really need to believe.
